App Localization Launch Checklist

A pre-release checklist for iOS, Android, React Native, and Flutter teams.

Before You Translate

  • Confirm your source strings are final for this release.
  • Remove dead keys and duplicate keys.
  • Mark product names, legal terms, and brand terms as protected.
  • Confirm placeholders and formatting tokens are standardized (%@, %d, {name}, etc.).
  • Decide target languages for this release and set rollout priority.

During Translation

  • Keep glossary and tone guidance consistent across languages.
  • Reuse existing translations with Translation Memory where possible.
  • Flag high-risk strings (checkout, auth, legal, onboarding) for manual review.
  • Verify plural forms are complete for each locale.
  • Ensure placeholders are preserved exactly.

Pre-Release QA

  • Run format validation (iOS .strings, .stringsdict, Android strings.xml, JSON, Flutter .arb).
  • Check for truncation on smaller screens.
  • Validate right-to-left rendering for RTL locales.
  • Confirm fallback behavior for missing keys.
  • Smoke-test critical user flows in each launch locale.

Release and Post-Release

  • Tag the localization version used in this release.
  • Monitor support tickets and app store reviews by locale.
  • Patch and re-sync high-impact strings quickly.
  • Feed approved changes back into Translation Memory.
  • Add new recurring copy to protected terms/glossary.

Use This as a Team Ritual

Copy this checklist into your release issue template and assign one owner per section. If you run weekly releases, repeat the same checklist every cycle so nothing slips through.
